my mondays…

Most of the people that read this blog are from out of God’s sacred land of Texas. (I don’t actually believe that Texas holds any special favor with God.) Most of the readers have not seen me in the day-to-day life that I lead as a wife, mom, and nerd. So I will attempt a short chronicle of my week to give you some insight.

My Monday’s begin with Bella who wakes me up (via baby monitor) sometime between 8:00 and 9:30 am.
We make breakfast (typically something that rquires cooking), we eat breakfast, and then we clean up breakfast.
At this point we get ready for our day. Bath for Bella, no bath for me, clothes etc. I then spend about 45 minutes reconciling my Grocery Game shopping list with my coupons and plan my menu for the week. By this point I have the mental panic of, I need to get my errands done fast so that I can get home to make lunch, eat lunch, cleanup lunch and put Bella down for a nap. This never goes how I plan…But we grab our Trader Joe’s shopping bags (which I purposefully use to show my faithfulness to my favorite store that doesn’t reside in Texas) and hit the road.
It is now 11:00. I hit the bank to withdrawal cash for my trip. I do this so that I can’t possibly go over the budgeted amount. I then head to Tom Thumb where my goal is to save at least 50%. I waltz around the store like a nutcase with my little cell phone calculator adding as a go. Bella hates this process because she is not all that entertained at the grocery store. Bella starts melting down and I start praying for two things: 1. That Bella will have the patience. 2. That God will grant me the grace to not care what other people think about my over tired, bored, crying child. Shopping has to get done.
At 12:30 I come home with bags full very excited about my 59% savings. I make lunch, we eat lunch, I put Bella down for a nap and then I cleanup lunch.
Bella typically naps at 1:00pm for at least 2 hours. This gives me 2 hours when I typically could be more productive than I generally am. I started a load of laundry and then sat down with a book for an hour and a half. Did our finances. Called the electric company. Cleaned our room. etc.
Bella woke up at 4:15. Praise God for a kid who loves to sleep so much. We read books for a half an hour. Today we just switched back and forth between two Dr. Seuss classics; Marvin K Mooney Will You Please Go Now! and There’s a Wocket in My Pocket.
I then let Bella play solo in her room whilst I was dinking around the internet. My routine typically starts at my Google homepage where I can glace at some e-mails and get caught up on blogs (I’m an addict). I then drift over to Drudge Report for a little dose of the news. And then I Facebook stalk for a few minutes.
At 5:15 I went in to play with Bella for a bit. She showed off her amazing dance moves and I laughed. Then I played an embarrassing game of peekaboo and she laughed. We cuddled for a bit and then I went out into the kitchen to prep for dinner and make further strides with the laudry.
I try to not start dinner till Clint calls and says he is on his way home from work. The longest part of my day by far is waiting for that phone call.
Clint calls at 6:15 and said says he os heading home so I made dinner. Clint got home and we ate dinner. Then I cleaned up dinner.
We watched some t.v. which was not all that entertaining. I showed off my receipt from Tom Thumb and my remarkable $175 in savings.
We bathed the small child who was dirty again from playing outside with Grandma. Cleaned her room and put her to bed. Then we watched Nirvana Unplugged on VH1 Classic. It was marvelous.
And here I am, ready for bed. I will likely read for 30 minutes while it is quiet. Clint will fall asleep and his snores will help me meditate on a bit of scripture.

Not glamerous but I love it. I enjoy the small victories like reading with Bella, cooking three meals a day, and stretching our dollar as far as a I can. God grants me the grace to love the life I lead.
